Daniel Dan Yazzie
DECEMBER 20, 1943 - JUNE 5, 2026
Daniel Dan Yazzie, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and community pillar, peacefully returned to the Lord on June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was 82 years old.
Daniel was born into this world on December 20, 1943, in Cane Valley, Arizona, to the late Luke Yazzie Sr. and June Yazzie. As a Diné man, he
introduced himself to the world and the Holy People through his four clans: He was born of the Bít'ahnii (Folded Arms People Clan), born for
the Kinłichíi'nii (Red House People Clan). His maternal grandparents were the Kinyaa'áanii (Towering House People Clan), and his paternal
grandparents were the Tó dích'íi'nii (Bitter Water Clan). He grew up deeply rooted in the beautiful landscapes and sacred traditions of his homeland, developing a profound love for his people and a legendary work ethic that would define his entire life.
A Life of Dedicated Service and Labor
To know Daniel was to know a man who could fix, build, or operate anything. He was a true "jack of all trades" who spent his lifetime
mastering countless skills. Over the years, he dedicated his labor as a uranium miner, truck driver, mechanic, welder, carpenter, saddle tree
maker, and a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, among many other trades.
His family remembers him fondly as the ultimate provider—a strong, steady force who made sure there was always a safe roof over their
heads and food on the table. In his down time, Daniel was an avid hunter who felt at home in nature. He also possessed a remarkable
green thumb, taking immense joy in watching things grow, and nothing made him smile quite like a sweet, ripe watermelon on a warm day.
Daniel’s heart was as big as his skill set. He was well known and deeply loved throughout his community as a man who was always willing to
lend a hand, step in to assist family and relatives with events, and support those in need without hesitation.
A Foundation of Faith
Daniel walked his earthly journey with a profound spiritual foundation. His beliefs were beautifully woven from the tapestry of his traditional Navajo (Diné) teachings, Native American Church (NAC) prayer ways, and his deep Christian faith. He walked in balance (Hózhó), honoring the Creator in all his ways and teaching his family the value of prayer,
respect, and resilience.
Family Legacy
Daniel is reunited in eternal rest with his beloved parents, Luke Sr. and June Yazzie; his dear sisters, Mary Lou Yazzie and Anna Jean Yazzie-Simp; and his beloved son, Daviel Dan Yazzie.
His legacy of love, hard work, and faith lives on through his large and beautiful family.
He is survived by his six children:
Beatrice Black
Priscilla Montoya
Evelena Yazzie
Dariel Dan Yazzie
Pretilda Yazzie
Ida Blueeyes-Sanchez
He is also survived by his six brothers, Luke McThias, Jimmy Yazzie, Kee Yazzie, Lewis Yazzie, Herbert Yazzie, and Terry
Yazzie; and his two sisters, Jean Curley and Linda Yazzie.
Daniel’s proud lineage continues through his 35 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandchild, all of whom will carry his stories, his teachings, and his memory forward for generations to come.
Funeral services for Daniel will be held on Saturday June 13, 2026 at Cane Valley Cemetery with Dariel Yazzie officiating. reception will follow after.
